Program Acceptance Criteria

Mercer Island High School students may be accepted based upon the following criteria:

• Desire to attend a four-year university

• Ongoing commitment to academic achievement

• Ongoing commitment to participate in extracurricular activities, such as sports, summer camps, internships, and paid work

• Meets one or more of the indicators of economic need:

  • Experiences financial hardship

  • Participates in free or reduced-price lunch program

  • Participates in Washington Students Achievement Council’s College Bound program

  • Participates in a federally funded TRIO program (e.g. Upward Bound)

  • Family income is at or below the DHHS Poverty Guidelines (https://aspe.hhs.gov/poverty-guidelines)

  • Family receives public assistance

  • Student resides in foster home

  • Student is homeless

  • Other extenuating circumstances

• Willingness to be coached throughout the process

• Parental approval for student to participate in MILEAP
